The Sunday Independent’s Rock Against Homelessness in aid of Focus Ireland returns for its ninth year on May 26th in 3Olympia Theatre, with Grammy Award winner Corinne Bailey as headline act. The gig will also feature a glittering array of talent including Toshín, Aimée, The White Horse Guitar Club and Isaac Butler and the evening will be once again MCed by Laura Whitmore.

Corinne Bailey Rae is fresh from her hugely successful and highly acclaimed fourth album Black Rainbows released in September 2023. Inspired by her visits to the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago, the 10-track collection is a testament not only to the stimulating power the Stony Island Arts Bank collection has but also the depth of Bailey Rae’s gifts as a songwriter and vocalist. With rave reviews from NMEThe New York Times and MojoBlack Rainbows is a career highlight. Corinne says, ‘I am proud to be headlining Rock Against Homelessness 2024 to help support Focus Ireland's work challenging homelessness and changing lives.’

Rising Irish artist Aimée has been busy carving out her niche in the pop arena. Her debut EP Confessions shot to the number one spot in the iTunes pop album chart and her single “Bulletproof”, written in response to online bullies, proved that hers was a voice committed to championing causes close to her heart, and led to a battle for the top spot in the iTunes chart with Billie Eilish.

Toshín, led by the powerful voice of Tosin Bankole, is a vibrant 6-piece band who take their inspiration from a variety of music spanning from early Motown to modern soul and R&B. Their debut EP Get Your Life was released in 2019, and was followed by a nationwide Irish tour and key festival performances. Since then, Toshín’s profile has been steadily on the rise and shows no signs of stopping.

The eleven men who make up The White Horse Guitar Club took to the stage in the intimate room upstairs in The White Horse to perform a repertoire shaped by 10 years on the road together. The finest Americana fused with Irish roots, the resulting music is the culmination of hours upon hours spent together playing and touring and celebration of a friendship cemented over those 10 years.

Singer-songwriter Isaac Butler has spent the last 2 years building his profile through music releases, live gigs and playing the Irish festival. His songs have collectively received over a million streams on Spotify and the young Dubliner is tipped for great things.

The Sunday Independent’s annual charity concert Rock Against Homelessness has been one of the musical highlights of the year since its inception and this year promises to be no different.

Sponsored by Cadbury, Arachas and Hard Rock Café in Temple Bar, with 2FM as media partners, Rock Against Homelessness has seen household names headline, including Glen Hansard and The Boomtown Rats in 2017, Imelda May and Dermot Kennedy in 2018, Fontaines DC in 2020, Pillow Queens and Aslan in 2021, and Kojaque and Damien Dempsey in 2022.

Focus Ireland CEO Pat Dennigan said: “Sadly the homelessness crisis has deepened again as 13,318 people are now homeless and shockingly this includes nearly 4,000 children. The number of people homeless has shot up 14% in the last year. However, the situation would be a lot worse again without the hard work of Focus Ireland and other organisations. Rock Against Homelessness helps us to achieve our goals and for this we are grateful.”

QUOTES:

Corinne Bailey Rae: "I am proud to be headlining Rock Against Homelessness 2024 to help support Focus Ireland's work challenging homelessness and changing lives. I know that homelessness has sadly grown to become a major crisis in Ireland as it has done already in the UK and the USA.

I was really shocked to hear that nearly 4,000 children are homeless in Ireland.  I am a mother and it is heart-breaking to think of children suffering the trauma of losing their home and then living in emergency accommodation for lengthy periods of time.

I know Focus Ireland family services are working hard to protect many of these children and their families, but the Government must do more. It is vital that as artists we do what we can to speak out on social issues in a way that connects with people and also reflects the realities of the situation. I have worked in the recent past with Oxfam and Amnesty, so all these issues are very close to my heart and have been since I was a child growing up in Leeds."

Aimée: "Every single year we are being updated with heart-breaking numbers of people living on the street or in emergency accommodation. It can feel very heavy not knowing how to help, but being a part of the Rock Against Homelessness concert is an amazing way to bring people together to raise money and connect through music."

Toshín: "The housing crisis in Dublin is not just statistics or headlines—it's a relentless battle for dignity and stability. Every empty building, every inflated rent, is a reminder of the human cost of a system failing its most vulnerable."

The White Horse Guitar Club: "We can't ignore the stark reality that many people face not having a roof over their heads. A warm, safe place to live should be the bare minimum expectation. Transcending policies and red tape, ensuring systems don't fail those in need, is paramount for a society that displays basic care for its population. If we don't get the basics right, we're setting ourselves up for failure as a society across the board.”

Isaac Butler: "Every person deserves to have a place to call home, the feeling of having somewhere to go at the end of the day or in times of need should not only be reserved for the fortunate, but for every human being. The fact that not everyone in this country has shelter and safety is just wrong."

Eoin Kellett, Managing Director, Mondelez Ireland: "Cadbury are proud to support this wonderful initiative again this year. After nine years of partnering with Rock Against Homelessness, we have seen the difference an event like this can make to so many people. Thanks to everyone that has worked tirelessly to put the event together, and to everyone that supports the gig on the night."

Arachas CEO, Joey Wynne: "Last year, Focus Ireland engaged with over 16000 people last year around Ireland, who sought help because they didn’t have a place that they could call home. That’s a shocking statistic, but also one which underlines why Focus Ireland’s work is so important. As Ireland’s largest nationwide broker with 18 offices throughout the country, Arachas is proud to sponsor Rock Against Homelessness again this year."

Celine Gilmer, Hard Rock Café in Temple Bar: "All the team at Hard Rock Café in Temple Bar are immensely proud to be associated with the Rock Against Homelessness concert in aid of Focus Ireland. The job that Focus Ireland do for the most vulnerable in Irish society is an incredible one."

Peter Vandermeersch, CEO of Mediahuis: "As a big news organisation here in Ireland, we try to cover in our papers and on our sites all the major issues in Irish society. Homelessness is one of the biggest and most important of these. But as a CEO of Mediahuis Ireland I really believe we should not only write about issues but also be prepared to help to solve these issues. That’s why I am very proud that The Sunday Independent for many years have been organising Rock Against Homelessness to raise money. Of course I love the music, of course I am so happy that the wonderful Corinne Bailey Rae will be the headline. And of course, I am looking forward to all the other artists. But in the end we do it for one reason: to fight homelessness in this country.”

Alan English, Editor, The Sunday Independent: "This is an important event and I’m delighted the Sunday Independent continues to present it. The 2024 Rock Against Homelessness night has a fantastic headline act in Corrine Bailey Rae and a terrific line-up all round. I’m sure it will be a great success and hope it will be a sell-out, so that Focus Ireland benefits in a significant way, giving it a helping hand in the crucial work it’s doing to fight homelessness in Ireland."

Adam Fogarty, Director of Music, 2FM: '’2FM are delighted to support Rock Against Homelessness in aid of Focus Ireland. This incredibly curated line-up of artists will no doubt be an amazing night of music for a really important cause."

Barry Egan, journalist with the Sunday Independent and organiser of Rock Against Homelessness in aid of Focus Ireland since 2016:  "I know from talking to Focus Ireland that homelessness causes terrible trauma for any person that loses their home but it hurts children the most. Childhood is meant to be a special time for kids to enjoy without having to deal with this constant stress.

One of the reasons I am so pleased to help raise funds for Focus Ireland is I know this helps their work to support children who are homeless. Their child support workers really help children to cope and they help to protect them from some of the damage caused by homelessness. Focus Ireland also supports the families while they are homeless and then to access a home as soon as possible."
